Antique Leather Horse Brush – London, England – Marked – c. 1900 – Very Rare. This is an antique horse grooming tool, a body brush I believe. It is a heavy leather oval piece measuring roughly 5″ x 9″. The bristles are hair, possibly horse hair. The brush is marked with an embossed circle about 2 across. There is a crown on top (with H R at the base), laurel wreaths around the sides (with Trade Mark at the base), LONDON at the bottom, and an animal head in the center could be a bear, or a boar, or a wolf… Appears to be snarling. This brush is from circa 1900 and came from the old family farm originally. It has been unused and in storage for most of that time, so it is in really nice condition for it’s age. All the bristles and stitching are present, the leather is flat and square with a clean edge. There is some normal aging to the surface of the leather. There may have been a handle at some point, but that goes back before my time. A very rare old piece. Please see the photo.
