W E L C O M E! This is a very Rare Vintage book “Sakhalin” in Russian in hard cover. The book was published in 1905 in the Russia, in Moscow. Typography: Sytin Association, Pyatnitskaya Street. Size is 165 x 255 mm (6.5″ x 10.0″). The book consists of two volumes: Volume 1 -? Ard labor, pages 432. Volume 2 – Criminals, pages 200. Book contains numerous unique photos depicting pictures from prison life, types of criminals. The book was used but condition is acceptable, all the sheets are in place. Several pages fall out, inscription on one page, some pages and endpapers are damaged(small fragments endpapers are missing), there are traces of moisture. Very Rare for your collection. Vlas Doroshevich was one of Russia’s most popular and widely read journalists, and a novelist, essayist, drama critic, and short story writer. He traveled to Sakhalin as part of a larger international assignment. He recorded his experiences and impressions in his book “Sakhalin”. Vlas Doroshevich in this book. Described the life of prisoners in the conditions of the tsarist penal servitude. The Russian journalist account of his visit to tsarist Russia’s largest penal colony, Sakhalin, in the north Pacific. Doroshevich’s book was enormously popular when it first appeared, and it continues to be published in Russia, as a historical record of the striking barbarity of late nineteenth century penal practices.
