Georgian pearlware commemorative mug / cup, with green and black transferware decoration and inscription “Independent Order of Odd Fellows”. Bearing a shield medallion to the front with various Fraternity symbols and the Latin motto “Amicitia Amor et Veritas” – “Friendship, Love and Truth”. The interior of the rim is further decorated with a beautiful floral and foliate border. Made in Staffordshire, c. 276 g 10.5 cm in height 9.5 in diameter. One of the most famous Friendly Societies in the Commonwealth, Odd Fellows is an international fraternity consisting of lodges first documented in 1730 in London. Both modern Freemasonry and the Odd Fellows came into existence around the same time, the 18th century, and both came from the workers guilds. However, unlike the Freemasons that put emphasis on self-improvement, the Odd Fellowship prioritised doing good works in the community. Very good antique condition.
