Wonderful and very rare lilac sprigged jug by the New Hall porcelain factory to commemorate the coronation of King George IV in 1821. I have been unable to find another example of this jug to date. Measures 18cm(7.1) in height. Excellent condition with no chips or cracks and minimal rubbing to gilding. A Very Rare Victorian Rummer Glass Of The Grand Alfred Order Of Old Friends
A Very Rare Victorian Rummer Glass Of The Grand Alfred Order Of Old Friends. This superb glass dates to around 1840 and is decorated with many symbols appropriated from Freemasonry including the All Seeing Eye of Provenance, Jacob’s Ladder, crossed swords, set square and crossed keys. Added to this are the cross and roses and thistles and acacia leaf running across the rim. Along the bottom of the words’We Relieve A Distressed Brother’, the motto of The Grand Alfred Order Of Old Friends’. The Grand Order of Old Friends flourished in the 1830s and 1840s in London- the’Illustrated London News published pictures of their processions- and may have been a purely London based grouping. The order may not have been a benefit society in strict terms but the mottos on members aprons and’WE RELIEVE A DISTRESSED BROTHER’, place much emphasis on benevolence, it is not known which’Alfred’ their name refers to. The rummer is in excellent condition. The rummer will be sent first class, tracked and signed for. The rummer measures 15cm in height (6 inches) and 9.5 width. Any further question please ask.
